You know your political culture has become morbidly calcified. . .
by Transmontanus, 3 September 2008
. . .when an unknown moose-hunting soccer mom from some obscure town in Alaska shows up with a passel of kids and thereby presents A Clear and Present Danger to the American Left, simply because she jumbles up so many cultural categories, because she is a feminist not in the Yale Gender Studies sense but the How Do I Reload This Thang way, because she is a woman who in style, history, moxie and femininity is exactly like a normal American feminist and not an Abstract Theory feminist; because she wears makeup and heels and eats mooseburgers. . . they are going to have to kill her, and kill her quick.
Lesson for the Yank Left: That’s what you get for your hatred of the working class, bitch.
From a greater remove, allowing yet finer perspective, Ami Isseroff observes:
The lofty intellectuals and putative friends of the common man are having a field day. Debates are raging among the champions of the proletariat, about whether to call the Palins “poor white trash,” “Alaska rednecks,” (not PC) or “trailer trash” (non-racial and therefore more PC). Oh what glee this has caused in the camp of the enlightened progressives! What an outpouring of sophisticated analysis from the intellectual luminaries of our time!

This is quickly turning into the nastiest presidential contest in recent memory, this time because the liberal intelligensia in the US have scented a woman’s blood.
I think there’s little doubt now that Obama is going to win - his modest popular lead is robust and growing - so why pretend that Palin is such a threat before she’s even done any talking?
You wouldn’t have imagined that there was an economic crisis from watching the campaigns of the two parties. Yet for sure by the end of this season, the situation for the common man will be worse than before.

She fucking hates polar bears mind. Could never bring myself to vote for a polar bear hater. I mean come on! WTF is wrong with polar bears — they’re fucking great.
McCain oven fried chips wifey … she hates polar bears — polar bear hater. Palin does not like polar bears. Does not like. Hates them in fact. Polar bears. Does not like.

For the love of polar bears, let me just say I disagree with the rodent.
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 0:14
In the Flying Pissant world, either you are a ‘decentist’ (yes — i know — stop laffing at the back there) or a… errr…something that isn’t a ‘decentist’ — something never ever defined or any of that shit like. Whenever anyone falls outside of this false paradigm and stupid as fuck bloggox made up shit his head implodes.
Good. Wot a tosser. I would have his non-decent sort strung up on council light fittings and that. Just for the laff like — nowt serious meant by it and that mind.
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 0:19
So he thinks I’m an asshole because I’m decent, or he thinks I’m an asshole because I’m indecent?
As for the polar bear thing, it’s all about Palin following the instructions of the oil monopolies, which is to say that for once, something really is all about oil.

The Pledge of Allegiance was written — in 1892, and the words “under God” added in the 1950s. And despite the source - http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/9/1/13152/11620/160/581558 it’s all fucking true.
Vote Obama and save ya’ll selves.

Lesson for the Yank Left: That’s what you get for your hatred of the working class, bitch.
Ironic, since for the first time in a couple of decades they’ve nominated someone who doesn’t see the working class as votes in the bag who should be grateful he even showed up. Though I don’t see how it follows from the Noonan article.
But Christ on a bike, this “how dare you say bad things about Sarah Palin” is incredibly hypocrtical bullshit. Every facet of Obama’s life has been fair game since February. Everyone he’s ever met has been probed to see if he can be guilted by association. We know the name of every school he went to (notably, this isn’t the case with McCain and the schools he went to around the world - yet nobody has ever asked whether John McCain went to a madrassa during his formative years). We’ve seen his hand gestures analysed to see if they indicate that he’s a terrorist or merely disrespectful to women. Everything about him, his family, his history, his haircut, has been dissected to the point of tedium on rolling news, made questionable in some intangiable way, and turned into portents of Marxist-terrorist-unpatriotic EVIL!!!1!! on a thousand wingnut blogs. Some people ask a few question about Palin, and suddenly the left are the paranoid, bigoted ones. It’s a fucking joke. Look at what Republican politicians and pundits said about Britney Spear’s pregnancy and how she was setting a bad example, or about teen mothers in general, and wonder why these same people are holding Britsol Palin up as a good example.
And Ami Isseroff is full of shit. The only person who has described the people in question as rednecks or “trailer trash” is the daughter’s new fiancee, who wears such terms proudly.
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 1:35
I call the fuckers rednecks as well Gregg. Other than that I agree with every word you say.
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 1:36
Fuck me - that Kos link is from the same Hunter dipshit who wanked on for ages about how the Killian memos were genuine and not some fucking half-baked knock-it-out-on-Word-and-photocopy-it-twenty-times piece of shite.
Broken clocks and all that…
Good spot Will.
Aside - can’t help thinking Julie Burchill might have a few good words to say about this nonsense. Someone give her a prod, if you could be so kind.
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 2:15
I call the fuckers rednecks as well Gregg.
Well, yeah, we can - we don’t live in Yankland. It’s not accurate, though - the Palin’s are definitely middle-class.
On the plus side, if McCain wins and Palin ends up succeeding him, I reckon she’ll over-see the break-up of the USA. She’ll load the Supreme Court with judges who’ll over-turn Roe v Wade. Half the states will ban abortion, half will enshrine its legality. Those that ban abortion will also ban going to another state to get an abortion, and helping someone do that. Some girl from Texas will cross the state line into California and get an abortion there. The authorities in Texas will find out and try to extradite both her and the doctor who performed the abortion in order to prosecute them. California will resist. It will get escalated to the Federal level. A legal battle will follow between California and the federal government. The fed will take sanctions, California will start witholding money, the fed will take more sanctions. An independence movement will develop in California. President Palin will try to resolve the issue with a federal ban on performing an abortion on a woman from an abortion-banning state. A new nullification crisis will follow. California will end up seceding. Nevada, Washington and Oregon will follow it. Then New York and the New England states will go. Then Illinois. Minnesota and Montana will apply to join Canada. This will all be most entertaining.

On BBC Parliament right now, the Republican convention. Henry Kissinger is wandering around the floor while a song plays with the lyrics “if you’re going to hell, keep on going”. Srsly.

seeing as you put it like that…fuck it …vote against Oven chips Gadgie.
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 2:28
Gregg: I’m still with Noonan.
It should come as no surprise that delusional Yank Christists would freak out about Obama. What Noonan’s on about is the very things for which Palin is being trashed expose the liberal critics flinging that mud for the posh, worker-despising hypocrites they have been all along. The Republicans are sitting back and laughing.
The same sort of attacks on Obama that you enumerate are now being made against Palin, and no amount of ‘he started it’ is going to make liberal windbaggery on the Palin question sound any less vulgar.
“I think the left will go hard on this: Fringe. Radical. What goes on in her church? Isn’t she extreme? Does she really think God wants a pipeline? What does Sarah Barracuda really mean? They’re going to try and make her strange, outré, oddball. And not in a good way. In all this, and in its involvement in this week’s ritual humiliation of a 17-year-old girl, the mainstream press may seriously overplay its hand, and court a backlash that impacts the election.”
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 2:36
Hitchens went hard on Obama for his religious affiliations — fairs fair and that — all of the fuckers should be ridiculed for their thick as fuck obscurantist sick shit.
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 2:42
Gregg: “the Palin’s are definitely middle-class.”
Oh how I hate that shit. What an unscientific category that crap is. ‘Middle Class. Doesn’t exist — nowhere to be seen. Non-existent. Two classes in developed modern economy. Peasants and kulaks don’t count even if they do exist..
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 2:45
What Noonan’s on about is the very things for which Palin is being trashed expose the liberal critics flinging that mud for the posh, worker-despising hypocrites they have been all along.
Like what? The only thing that comes close is about her daughter being pregnant. I don’t see how that shows anyone on the left up as posh or worker-despising. I do see how it underlines the failure of Palin’s “absintence only” sex ed policy, and how it’s perfectly justifiable to talk about it in those terms. And how the revelation that good God-fearing teens from stable, affluent homes can get pregnant too, shows how much bullshit was the Republican tub-thumping about teenage pregnancy amongst inner-city kids from the godless broken homes of the self-condemned poor (and that was a class issue).
The same sort of attacks on Obama that you enumerate are now being made against Palin, and no amount of ‘he started it’ is going to make liberal windbaggery on the Palin question sound any less vulgar.
Palin has yet to face anything compared to the endless rounds of innuendo and smearing that was levelled at Obama. Of course it’s vulgar. But it’s what goes on now, and all attempts to rise above it have ended in defeat. The Republicans did start this. Fuck them and fuck Palin.
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 2:47
I’m now with Will.
Conjuring a series of seccessionist movements and the eventual breakup of the US is as loopy a Palin scenario as I’ve yet heard, but let’s say it’s so.
With Americaland thus enfeebled, Canada should invade. We’ll give Alaska back to the Russians to get Moscow on side, the Boston states will be absorbed by the Maritimes to become part of Greater Nova Scotia, we’ll give California and Texas back to Mexico where they belong, Alberta gets Montana and Colorado, Ontario can have its way with Vermont and the borders states (Ossettia style), and we British Columbians can finally avenge the loss of the San Juan Islands in the Pig War by seizing everything from Point Roberts down to the mouth of the Columbia.
It was Lyman Cutler who shot one of our pigs in 1859 what started it all. I’ve been bitter about it ever since.
Hoo-rah.
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 2:49
Wot Gregg said.
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 2:54
Fuck what Gregg said.
“They were mean to Obama so we can be mean to Palin! He hit me first!”
No exaggeration: “Of course it’s vulgar. But it’s what goes on now.”
That’ll go down well. You should sell that to DNC strategists.
And that’s the last of Will’s bait I’ll be taking.
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 3:04
You should sell that to DNC strategists.
Oh, but it’s not the DNC doing it. At least, I don’t think it is - certainly, Obama’s response to the reports on Palin’s daughter’s pregnancy was to condemn the coverage, say families should be off-limits and point out that his own mother fell pregnant at 18.
It’s Democratic bloggers doing it, treating Palin the way Republican bloggers have treated Obama. It’s the media doing it, subjecting Palin to just a bit of the scrutiny they subjected Obama to (which they utterly failed to do in McCain’s case). Look, I would love the election - all elections - to be about policy. But it isn’t. It’s about personality, it’s about scandal, it’s about drama. It’s too late to stop that being the case for this election now, it’s unfair to say that kind of coverage should only hit the left, and its hypocritical of Republicans to cry foul now.
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 3:08
And furthermore, by putting the scandal on both sides, it hopefully means things can and will come back to policy, come back to what the election should be about. If the Republican campaign can’t talk about pastors or question his family values or try and smear him through his dodgy friends, because the other side can do that too, then it’ll have to be about policy.
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 3:55
Whatever, Gregg.
“Minnesota and Montana will apply to join Canada.”
You’re a right svengali, you are.
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 6:46
It’s the media doing it
Something to do with their ideology — selling advertising.
we’ll give California and Texas back to Mexico where they belong
What about Floridia? That’s an ancient and inalienable part of the Cuban motherland is it not?
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 10:19
Background is not present circumstances.
And being a product of something is not being a producer of something.

yes — that’s right — Aerial Fucking Wolf Gunning. Palin supports it…

Wot a fucking fruitloop.
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 16:11
Is there an American left? I thought they just had a centre right.
Certainly true, but there are Republicans who think Obama and the Clintons are Marxists, so “left” here in Yankland refers to people who are probably somewhat to the right of David Cameron.
Anyway, Palin talks tough about polar bears, but I’d like to see her take one on without benefit of rifle or helicopter.
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 16:24
Guns don’t kill people — redknecks do!
If you kill all of them polar bears and wolves there’s no reason not to drill for awl.
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 17:31
Imagine a Republican ‘moderate’ as described by a Republican who thinks Obama and the Clintons are Marxists.
Thursday 4 September 2008 at 18:33
Imagine a Republican ‘moderate’ as described by a Republican who thinks Obama and the Clintons are Marxists.
John McCain! The anti-polar bear religious fanatic wing of the Republican party is thrilled by the selection of Palin because they thought McCain was too far to the left.
Friday 5 September 2008 at 1:27
While I remember … the flying pissant upthread is in the habit of making all sorts of baseless and fantastical assertions. Yesterday, someone sent me a link to one of those ridiculous ‘watch’ sites, where the pissant had said that this here weblodge™ has published repeated demands for an individual called Osama Saeed to rat out ‘hook-handed’ clerics.
Funny, as I have no fucking idea who this Osama Saeed — against whom we have been waging some sort of campaign — is. Could it all be just like that non-existent ‘culture war’ we were waging against the BBC? A search did reveal one passing mention of Saeed in a post attacking the SNP.
Pissant = a lying liar who lets the ‘red mist’ provide/decide the narrative instead of recourse to boring shite like facts. Makes stuff up as he goes along. His brains are mush.
Friday 5 September 2008 at 1:38
Might do a post directed at that cunt like.
Forra laff like.
Nowt more than that like.
PS again: Shuggy is his pretend mate! Worra fucking laff this blogging lark is and that.

Palin — a certified god bothering fruitloop — following vids are boring as fuck and shit but worth it for the evidence for the prosecution they contain and that.
