Despite showing no interest at all in events in Nottingham and ignoring the local Notts Stop the BNP campaign, to the extent that they called for a protest rally two hours after the local campaign called it then claimed that was what the local group really wanted, the SWP/UAF have now claimed the rally was entirely their intiative.
A lively and militant demo of over 500 Unite Against Fascism activists took to the streets of Codnor, Derbyshire, to oppose the Nazi BNP’s Red, White and Blue festival, on Saturday 16 August.
UAF mobilised a large number of local trade unions and anti-racist groups.
I mean, they must know that this is not the truth so they are doing this on purpose.

First comment on the AWL website suggests that the failure to mention the small matter of the attempt to exterminate Europe’s Jews was ‘a slip’. Some ’slip’. Failing to mention Jehovah’s Witnesses might fall into that category. I’m sure this marks me out as v. un-PC but despite having a degree in history and a post-graduate certificate in education which included an elective on teaching the Holocaust, I had to look ‘LGBT’ up. Hitherto, I had been unaware that it had been the ‘transgender’ community that had been disappearing up the chimneys by the million - sorry, thousands.

I am, in principle, a diehard socialist. BUT….I cannot associate with blatantly anti-Semitic individuals and organizations, who deny the significance, scope and impact of the Holocaust.
You SWP members are losing more people than you are gaining by these tactics.

I speed read Jane’s comment (reproduced above) late last night and thought she was too charitable. I formed this view because of her use of “mistake” and “slip” and because, like Shuggy, I think this is far from an accidental omission.
It is however clearly a “political error”, for which they may or may not apologise, probably the latter on a guess , but there is more to it than that.
The Holocaust and 6 million Jewish victims are frankly inseparable in the common psyche, let alone amongst the “political cognoscenti”. It is not possible that this unique, alternative description could be arrived at without thought and calculation. Rank political accommodation to their current swamp dwelling co-habitees goes some, but not all of the way to explain it,.
As Will indicates the Roma omission clearly indicates a casual disregard for the excluded. There is more here however. At the very least it says “we do not care if we offend Jewish anti fascists” moreover “we do not want to attract, engage, work with or politically relate to Jews who have not self defined themselves as Socialist”. Contrast this to all their other “broad group” work and arrive at a conclusion - it is not a pretty one.
At the height of the ANL/RAR this would, of course, have been inconceivable.

SWP has always regarded Holocaust (and antisemitism) as something that should be gauged by its (supposed) utility to Evil Zionism.
This leads them to some odd conclusions, the most obvious one being how the industrialised mass murder of European Jewry (and preceding factors such as Evian Conference where rest of world turned its back) shows that Jews do NOT need a state of their own, and anyone who says otherwise is a racist in league with antisemites.

Some gobshite a couple of years ago tried to claim all the credit for the work done in calling for a police inquiry etc in the aftermath of the death of Stephen Lawrence, rather than his heartbroken parents.
