Mugabe has turned Zimbabwe into a place where the two classes are now rat-eaters and the thugs who torment rat-eaters. Tsivangirai was the last hope for an alternative to a bloody revolution. The capitalist west - the “developed world” - could have intervened to head this off, but its liberal elites were too vacuous to comprehend the opportunity, and too morally weak to accept the burden that comes with discharging a duty of solidarity with oppressed peoples.
Which is how I reckon sensible people will look back on all this.
