You can paste the embed code block from Youtube into the comment text field–although it won’t show up in preview.
Wordpress is a bit quirky with the way it handles embedded media. It allows them in comments, but not in actual posts–for that you need plugins and incantations. It’s a ’security feature’, although why it is more secure to allow readers to directly embed content than it is to allow the people who actually write posts to do so is beyond me…

Sadly, my attempt to embod the code in the comment text field did not show up when posted. Fortunately, a bot handled that end of things.
