I say “Merry Christmas” … I say “Happy Hanukkah” … And I don’t say “Happy Kwanzaa,” because I think African-Americans get enough insults all year round. That was invented by a fraud almost as great as [Mormonism founder] Joseph Smith. Maulana Karenga, formerly Ron Karenga. A craphound from the Bay Area, used to be an FBI informer on the Black Panthers. Scumbag. And I actually don’t know anyone who does celebrate Kwanzaa. That’s just sad and awful that that’s allowed to happen.
Hitchens seems to lose his true north when he writes about the popular holidays. He insists on being M. Jacques, the refuser of festivities.
Don’t you shudder inwardly whenever anyone claims with such insouciance to know the truth, as Hitchens does in this case, about Hannukah?
“That was a foolish piece by a very clever guy.” could easily as well apply to him.
Anyway, I was not offended by his Hannukah take. I consider it part of his regular self-immunization regime against possible charges of favouring Jews.
It’s funny that the nicest thing you can say about the Black Panthers is that they were Maoists who started an arm-yourself movement in response to the Oakland police being completely incompetent.
But they were also a criminal gang who murdered people and dealt cocaine.
I’m not willing to condemn a man for informing on that.
And it’s a little worrisome when a murderous, drug-dealing, Maoist militia is also running a school. I don’t know enough to say whether they were also racists, but many black nationalist groups were that too.

Amen on the Kwanzaa thing.
Is that much acknowledged in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, may I inquire?
