An English Thanksgiving

Little reported outside of the local media in Norfolk was yesterday’s return from Afghanistan of the First Battalion of the Royal Anglian Regiment (“The Vikings”). Nine of its members died, and 57 were wounded, in some of the fiercest fighting the British Army has seen in a very long time.
Welcome home, soldiers, and thanks for a job well done!

“Little reported outside of the local media in Norfolk.”
I saw this on the national TV news. Very celebratory stuff too. Does that count.

I’ll take your word for it. I don’t possess a devil’s lightbox myself, and only ever watch it when in others’ houses. Most of the press coverage I’ve seen has been on p99, and distinctly unenthusiastic.

There’s a double page photo in the Indy today, and a short but sympathetic report by Kim Sengupta. (Not online - I just checked.) I guess you guys don’t hold with the Indy much, but it has been banging the drum for the military covenant for some time.

Yeah, there was a clip of the homecoming on BBC news - but it was as part of the report about the army cheifs rounding on
Gordon Brown rather than them per se.
I’ve also seen this website advertised (non-political)

There was another report that day (Thursday) that had a snippet of an interview with John Smeaton on it - about have a go heroes and the principle of intervention.
