Ben Hecht once requested of people living in future generations that they credit his bones with having discovered that the two chief ingredients in Man are Poison and Folly.

Looking at a world as riddled with human suffering as our own is while the Free Countries of the world wallow in wealth more massive than any past generations could have imagined leads me a humble bow at Hecht’s tomb. Indeed, the chief ingredients in Man’s soul are Poison and Folly.

“Indeed, the chief ingredients in Man’s soul are Poison and Folly.”

No. They’re minor ingredients. Main ingredients: High-order intelligence and empathy. Poison and Folly are there but in equal parts to Heroism and Doodling.
