I (part) read that this morning (in a hurry) - I did wonder what the ethics are, as a journalist, of witnessing clearly a terrorist attack, then writing it up and then publishing it.
Hamas spokesman(?) stated that the Palestinian people had voted for Hamas because of its “resistance” to Israel.
Jimmy Carter tells us that the Palestinians voted Hamas into power because of its social services and as a protest against the PA’s corruption. Which is why the world needs to recognize and talk to them.
Have you heard that the Observer is being forced into the “party line”?
Roger Alton has resigned and the paper is being “integrated” with the Gruaniad. Farewell to a proper leftwing paper. Guess I’ll have to stick with the Times…at least there you have debate.
What is it with the leftists that they cannot stand independent thought or difference of opinion.
Speaking as someone who has been to the city on the receiving end of these attacks, I feel quite strange watching this video. On the one hand, I’m glad that the rocket launches themselves are being taken up in the media (they are in fact, regular fixtures of Hamas and Islamic Jihad propaganda), but of course everyone seems to miss the REAL point of these attacks which is for Hamas to invite attacks by the IDF deep in Gazan territory and then force the other Palestinian factions to unite behind it. There is no ‘resistance’ behind these plainly cowardly attacks but only a strategy of escalation that is played for domestic power.
How long will it be before the left wakes up and realizes that somehow every enemy of Israel is also their enemy? That every flattened history that applies the moral judgements of 2007 to the survivors of the world’s first attempt at industrial genocide is in fact identical to the ideological attack of the ‘end of history’, i.e. that in the defeat of contingency itself (and therefore the pressing need for the small refuge for Jews) we also witness the permanent defeat of the proletariat, the struggle of which is not premised on asking permission.
In this respect I completely agree with the title of this post, since every enemy of Israel is also my own, although let’s not forget the watchword: ‘class struggle, not culture wars.’

This is depressing: the Obs was the last refuge for journalism and comment with moral fibre. Joe Snowe would be turning in his grave at the thought of the pseuds at the Guardian taking over. It is a tragedy that the Times is one of the few places left to catch courageous reporting and real debate, so long as you can put to one side the daily tripe dished out by Parris, Jenkins, and Rees Mogg.
That’s a fine sentiment coming from a blog which supports the worst mass murderers in history. Any fule know that the perfect system of government is a neo-liberal market economy presided over by Philosopher Kings chosen from among the most able chaps at Oxbridge. As we all know - capitalism has never killed anyone — of any consequence.

But the anti-impi crowd would point out the role of ‘embedded journalists’ with the coalition forces…the stupid fucks.

Who should I believe?

Unfortunately Palestinians are hampered with Islamist or nationalist leadership. Neither have the program that could help them.

The enemy of my enemy, is the enemy of my enemy - nothing more.
