Cohen’s critics
by Scoop Shachtman, 14 October 2007
Is it me, or are the commentators on Cohen’s latest article particularly stupid this morning?
I liked this from Cohen:
Just as urban legend has it that you are never more than six feet away from a rat on the streets of London, so dismal experience has taught me that you are never more than six feet away from an apologist for tyranny at a meeting of London liberals. (A good example of this came a few days later when Martin Amis, a serious novelist, was confronted by Chris Morris, a light entertainer, at the Institute of Contemporary Arts. Amis was so exasperated by the betrayals of principle that he asked members of the audience to raise their hand if they considered themselves morally superior to the sexist, racist, homophobic and psychopathic Taliban. Fewer than a third did.)

It’s not you. It’s them. Mentalists.

Varies from day to day doesn’t it? On one hand, the BBC is/was a propaganda arm of imperialism, but if on the other hand, you mention it in passing, you’re guilty of a ‘culture war’ against the unimpeachable Auntie.
PooterGeek is correct — the comments are showing symptoms of advanced CiFilis.

The comments on CiF are now so deranged as to be laughable but Nick Cohen seems to attract an especially ludicrous campaign from the ‘you are wholly to blame for 600,000 deaths’ loons. I don’t know what morbid fascination draws me to the comments boxes. I mustn’t do it. It isn’t good for me.

Politics aside, Chris Morris as an, ahem, talent owns Amis on every conceivable level.
It’s like comparing Gershwin to somebody who likes making noises with their armpit.

“Light entertainer”?
Is Mr Cholmondeley-Warner ghost writing articles for Nick Cohen now?

Jayzus wept. No, Scoop, you seem to be OK (I still reserve an option to denounce you later, when the glorious whatever will demand it from me).
But the commenters there are a selected group of CiF loonies. Probably that time of the months…

Er… Gadgie, it is good for the ego, I dare say. Also, it could develop into a love story with automatic rifles, if you see where I am leading ;-)
