Sudbury’s smelter workers at Inco come out of Local 598 of the Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers, arising from the Western Federation of Miners, founded in 1893, down through the United Steelworkers of America to the Canadian Auto Workers (Local 598 is there yet, now a CAW local).
Do you remember that Scottish arts programme, ‘Halfway To Paradise’, from a years back? Really good show, despite the drawback of being presented by that professional arse Stuart Cosgrove.
They had a really excellent segment on Thompson. Good stuff.
