Kathy Griffin: “I hope I offended some people”
by Jura Watchmaker, 12 September 2007
At the risk of coming across as monotonously anti-religious, or even “fundamentalist” in my atheism, I should like to alert you to the following juicy morsel of news…
Actress and comedian Kathy Griffin has got herself into a spot of bother with remarks she made at the recent Emmy Awards ceremony.
Receiving an award for her part in the reality TV programme “My Life on the D-List”, Griffin said:
“A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus,” an exultant Griffin said, holding up her statuette. “Suck it, Jesus. This award is my god now.”
After the speech Griffin added: “I hope I offended some people. I didn’t want to win the Emmy for nothing.”
The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights condemned Griffin’s remarks as obscene and blasphemous:
“It is a sure bet that if Griffin had said, ‘Suck it, Muhammad,’ there would have been a very different reaction,”
Perhaps it is because Griffin is a recovering Catholic that she said “Suck it, Jesus.”
The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has decided to cut the offending remarks from the edited recording of the awards ceremony.

She’s a pathetic loser with a big mouth. Her remarks were extremely offensive to those who believe in Jesus. She can believe anyway she chooses; but, she needs to keep that big mouth of hers shut. She’s loud, not funny and I wouldn’t even rate her a D actress…I wonder what the Muslims would do if she’d made a remark about Mohammed? Blacks? Asians? Buddhists? Why is it only Christianity is attacked in Hollywood?????

Rita
I agree with you, Christians seem to never stand up for their right but if she had made a racist comment South Central would be burning down now. Marchers would be assembling to march on WA. Christians need to take a stand!!
And Will
What???
Suck it

Arrrrgggghhh! Save us! The legions of the Witch King are upon us. We repent! We repent!
nah….
[T]hose who believe in Jesus are no different from those who believe in the toothfairy, or those who worship the ’souls’ of trees, although as some of them are purportedly adults, they should know better than to adhere to obscurantist, superstitious nonsense from the childhood of our species™.
One also wonders on which part of Washington State (WA) protesters would be marching. QED.
PS. Oh my, look what the cat’s dragged in. Not me — look elsewhere.

Hey, Hakmao
What if you’re wrong and we’re right? I would be devastated to spend my whole life denying God to find out; I was wrong again…That decision comes with eternal consquenses…

Pascal’s Wager is for cowards and liars. And for people whose minister has told them to Google for “Kathy Griffin”, apparently.

Can anyone tell me whether one of the requirements for being a Christo-fascist is semi-illiteracy, including the apparent inability to spell the name of the person being consigned to eternal damnation?
Calm down, have a cream soda.
